It's All Water Under The Bridge

Friday I got to go on a hike! YAY! It was fairly moderate outside, and nice when the sun came out from behind the clouds.

We'd planned on taking a more traditional hike, but they were re-doing the road up to the path, so we weren't able to. We'd seen some train bridges a way back and decided we would try to find a way to get over to it.

These bridges were gorgeous, and constructed in 1914. Jared and I are both very "documentary" people and love taking pictures, so of course we had a camera with us. We had to hike down a little gully, then across rocks that are submerged in the summer. We skipped some rocks and took a picture in front of the bridge before moving on.

We hiked back over to the bank and made our way to the bridge. We shot a couple shots, and even modeled a little ;)

We decided it was time to eat, and one of the supports had a ladder from the top of the bridge to the water, where there was then a pile of rocks we sat on. The ladder was chained to the bridge but was still a little wobbly!

We had raspberry jam and nutella sandwiches (tasty!) and some amazingly addictive Wheat Thins (oxymoron isn't it? Wheat THINS, but addictive?) The weather was being a little temperamental, it would be sunny, then cloudy and windy. My hands were beginning to freeze!

Overall, it was a great date, and a lot of fun to get out in the fresh air with some good chatter!

A day of sorts

Today was most like any other day, although add a killer headache and you've got yourself a meal.

I went to CBC (Career Beauty College) to get more information about their prices/ start dates/ and such information for Cosmetology school! I'm getting very excited, but also kind of scared. I mean, I want to be doing something I love, but all of a sudden I had a minor freak out moment after getting the information. Hopefully going to the temple tomorrow will help with that.

I talked to dad today, I wasn't even going to mention my major change and stuff (besides what I've posted on here) to the parentals until I knew more of what I'm doing. I think I've gotten a lot of it figured out, but dad brought it up. I've done some research but have a little more to do. I need to see how much schooling is in Washington, and at the different schools in Rexburg. I just really want to be up here next year when Alyssa comes so its been a really hard contemplation and decision process.

I found out that as long as I stay enrolled in 1 credit, I can live in approved housing and keep my status as a student. Which means that I can live with Alyssa, still have one class I take, meet new people, and still attend a singles ward! :) Perfect? Not quite.

There is the whole money issue. Hopefully though I can get a very good job for the summer (Veritest again? and then maybe another job for the weekends? no musical for me this summer) and then a job a few hours a week while up here.
We shall see what I find through my research!

Tonight we invited over our hometeacher Jared, and KP's 'friend' Britton for dinner and movie night. Marisa and I made some wicked good Potato soup and then we watched "Australia". Oh boy, Hugh Jackman is such a hunk of meat! He is a total stud and if I could just shake his hand, I would die a happy woman. He is so handsome and rugged and chiseled. Haha, but really, Jared said his favorite part of watching the movie with us was watching our reactions to seeing Hugh Jackman. We were pretty vocal with our appreciation...

Marisa, Jared, and I played Egyptian Rat something and I got my butt kicked. It cracks me up to play with them, and I love it!

I've really appreciated having Jared as a home-teacher and as a friend. He's always been there to talk to, joke with, and just have a good time all around. He's a great guy and some woman will be very lucky to snap him right up!

By Holly Conlan

Another new favorite song. :)

I'm fighting with my head and my heart
All the reasons you think we'll fall apart
You can hold me and in circles we'll crawl
Chasing tails, feeling nothing at all
Oh am I, so hard to love?
Am I so hard to love?

If you can't better this
Then it's not all that good
I know it's been short
But maybe I've stayed longer than I really should

I'm storming, steeping up through my head
I should leave now, but I'm waiting instead
For a new day, for a version of you
That will love me, displacing my blue
Oh, am I so hard to love?
Am I so hard to love?

If you can't better this
Then it's not all that good
I know it's been short
But maybe I stayed longer than I really should

At the edge of courage
I could stand here all night long
And say nothing
Oh, nothing

I'm fighting with my head and my heart
All the reasons I know we'll fall apart
Am I so hard to love?
Am I so hard to love?

Forever by John Michael Montgomery

Yesterday Marisa, Elise, and I went with Jared (hometeacher) and his roommates Alex and Kelsey, Rob, Jordan (FHE) and his cousin to the pool to swim. We ended up playing halfcourt water basketball. Let me tell you, I made 3 baskets, and I didn't even have my contacts in! Haha, it was alot of fun and very entertaining. When a guy had the ball, all the guys were all over him, dunking him and trying to get it, but as soon as a girl had it, they like backed off and let the girls handle it. At one point Elise and I were fighting over it and later Marisa said it was the funniest thing she'd ever watched. Marisa's ears are very waterlogged still though!

This morning Marisa and I went to play ultimate frisbee with some guy friends and had a blast! You know when you're out of shape when you run like me... But I acutally managed to catch the frisbee a few times, which will come as a complete surprise to my family, because I'm a notorious frisbee dropper. Give me a football and you might have a different story. I'm very tired and very sore, but it was worth it.

We had a little picnic afterwards, slightly dissappointing after the game, but still good. It was so sunny today, I think I managed to get sunburned but just a little.

Marisa took some friends to Wal Mart so I tagged along. On the way back, I really had to go to the bathroom, but Marisa forgot she had her friends with her, so right as she was turning into our parking lot, she swerves back into the road and scared me like nothing else! I almost peed my pants! And then when we finally got home, Michael was over and hid behind the door, so when we came in he scared us and I almost peed my pants again! Twice in one day! Don't worry, the ALMOST is there for a reason.

So I heard a song on the radio today while I was on my way home from the testing center - I got an 82 on my Business Law test, I'm so HAPPY!
But I just loved it and thought I'd share the lyrics and a link so you can listen to it.

FOREVER
John Michael Montgomery

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL69G60c7Bg

And the lyrics are:

I guess I`m just a little bit scared
I guess I`m not as strong as i thought
When i see you lying there
I worry about losing you
I used to think of only me
But that was long ago
Now I find it hard to concieve
Life without you baby I don`t want to be the one to face this life
All alone at the end of the day when the sun goes down
I want you right here in my arms forever
Every little smile every move you make
It`s like a dagger to my heart took my breath away
All i ask is that you be mine forever forever

So think about what you`re doing here
If you`re anything less than sincere
Tell me now and let yourself out the door
No harm no foul, kill me now, save me all the pain
But if you feel the way i do
Stay and let me make love to you baby

I don`t want to be the one to face this life
All alone at the end of the day when the sun goes down
I want you right here in my arms forever
Every little smile every move you make
It`s like a dagger to my heart took my breath away
All i ask is that you be mine forever forever

Forever

Baby I don`t want to be the one to face this life
All alone at the end of the day when the sun goes down
I want you right here in my arms forever
Every little smile every move you make
It`s like a dagger to my heart took my breath away
All I ask is that you be mine forever forever

Forever
Forever
Forever

I guess I`m just a little bit scared
I guess I`m not as strong as i thought
When I see you lying there
I worry about losing you

Run in the Sun

The weekend is here, and life is good!
I went for a short drive yesterday up to the temple for some journal writing time. It was awesome. I had to roll down the windows because it was so sunny outside!
Today the weather is in the 50s, pure amazingness. I went for a run in the sun (first time running in a week because of the wedding and plasma stuff) and I definitely felt the difference in my body. I've gotten a little more out of shape in the last week, so it will be nice to get back in it.
Yesterday I went swimming with a friends, and tonight I'm going again - this time in the Hart. Love that pool. I'm not much of a water girl, but I enjoy the time in the pool.
I hope the lovely weather keeps up :)

Epiphany #1 - Wrong Major?

Today was eventful for me. I guess. I have been thinking about my life a bit lately. Probably a good thing to do. While at Lance's wedding my aunt Mary asked how school was, and I realized I really didn't enjoy learning what was being taught in my classes, I had no desire to learn it. I wasn't even interested. What a waste of time! She mentioned "Well, maybe you're in the wrong major. thats something to really think about, because it can be what you end up doing the rest of your life."

I had many epiphanies, one of which was that I need to change my major. Scary? Yes! I don't know what I want to change it to, all I know is that I'm not happy studying Business Management. Lots of people have said, "Oh yeah, I can see you doing that." And I did too, for awhile. I still want to own a Bed and Breakfast, and work in hotel management (as far as I know) but I just want to be in the creative side of it, I don't want to do all the bookkeeping/ financial stuff. Business Law and Accounting this semester has proven that to me. I'm definitely not that kind of a girl.

Now comes the trouble. I've already been in school, so I don't want to do a bunch of it over! But I know in the end, I'll be happier if I decide to do something else. But I can't decide what it is. I need to do some more research in this area. I thought briefly about Family/Marriage studies, but I don't know what I could do with that, besides MORE education and then counsel people. Which I don't want to do... the other things I was thinking was Photography, which was my first choice coming to college. And one other one I'm contemplating so far is Interior Design.

Other choices are dropping out of a 4 year school and going to a hospitality school, or some other trade school, or cosmetology. I'm not sure that would make my parents incredibly happy...

I really like photography and makeup, so really, I would love to do makeup for a photoshoot or something, or makeup for theater productions or such. Hmm.
I have a lot to think about!

Selling something

So this morning I had an appointment at the plasma center. I was so nervous, its retarded, but it went well. My friend Annie made it less scary, she works at the plasma center and did my physical and questioning.
The needle for plasma is larger than one used to give blood, and I'm not going to lie - it definitely hurt to get it stuck in my arm! But it was worth it. The appointment took 2 hours, which is an hour shorter than it usually does. My blood pumps quickly? The blood is pumped into a machine, they separate out the plasma and then the blood is put back into your body.
The guy was surprised that I didn't feel light headed "you must be tough" haha YES! Anyways, it ended up being good. And I'm $25 richer, or closer to getting richer?
No, I didn't sell my body, just my blood.
And it looked gross.

Car Troubles, count me in!

So on our way back to Rexburg from St. George, my car decided it didn't like me much. I guess it wanted to get back at me for accidentally hitting the rear bumper on a brick wall, causing a lovely dent and my light to break 'a little'. So Howdy Houston probably thought I deserved a little payback.

Missy and I were driving back, a little worried because my battery light had come on. We figured that maybe we could just like, you know, get it jumped when we picked up Missy's friend Lisa. Well, apparently we didn't know that if your battery light comes on while driving, you're pretty much screwed.

The car died WHILE I was on the highway, in the middle lane. Luckily, there was one pickup behind us, and no other cars. We made it to the side of the road after a few lurching scary moments.

With my verizon service, I have free towing up to ten miles, so I called verizon, they called a tow company, the tow company called and came and got us. We went to an autozone, Stuart came and helped me replace my battery. Then we had to check whether or not the alternator was working. It wasn't. So I went in to get an alternator and the manager said he was going to come out and help us replace the alternator. Hallejulah! If he hadn't, I'm not sure if I would be back in Rexburg now if he hadn't. He was very nice to do that for us.

It was quite an adventure, and I'm glad its over!
Missy was quite a doll through it all, and I got to see some friends I wouldn't have :)

Lance and Mandy Wedding

Well, Lance finally tied the knot with Mandy this weekend. They were married in the St. George, Utah Temple on March 14, 2009. We are all very excited to have Mandy in the family, she is an amazing woman and has helped Lance to grow so much. She seems to fit in wonderfully!
All the pre-wedding stuff is stressful as usual with weddings, things never go as smoothly as they should! But the day itself was great. So sunny and warm! Gorgeous weather and gorgeous people!
It was lovely to see so much family. Kaia is an adorable little girl! Marinda looks well, and is big for being 6 1/2 months pregnant but she's a cute pregnant lady. It was fun to see Tamara in a skirt, its been awhile since I have. I was glad that Kevin could make it since Candace couldn't, but we sure missed having her around! I couldn't wait to see Alyssa, and I'm sad she's gone already! Stuart and Caidin are the brothers as usual, entertaining! And the cousin time was amazing. Grandma and Grandpa were a joy to visit with. As always, its good to see mom and dad, I'm amazed by everything they do for their family, they are truly wonderful, loving people.

Here is a link to some pictures I have posted so far:

I love Lance and Mandy and am excited for them as they begin their lives together!

some of provo

Yesterday Missy and I drove down from Rexburg to Provo. The drive was a blast! I love that girl! We're so much alike, yet so different, its wonderful. We chatted pretty well the entire way down :)

I saw Brandon and chatted with him last night. I feel bad about everything he is going through in his life right now. It was very good to see him and talk about what we've been up to. He leaves for Afghanistan in August, which is a very frightening thought! I cried when I found out he was leaving, more like when I said it out loud to Hannah - saying it will get you every time! If possible, I'm even more confused than ever, but its alright.

I got to see Jessie and Amy, which is always a delight :) They're adorable.

Today I get to see the majority of my family - I can't wait! I can't wait to see Alyssa!!!!!!

Now I need to go run - Love Janelle <3

Pirates!

Wow, its been a long time since I've written, so I guess it is WAY past time.
Hannah and I went to Subway and then made cookies, Michael came over for a few, then after he left we watched Stardust. Its been awhile since I've seen it!
Tonight I borrowed "Pirates of Penzance" from a guy in my ward. Ahh it is amazing! I love it! I only watched 1/2 of it since its getting late, but I just can't seem to get enough of the Pirate King and his thigh high pirate boots ;) he is quite studly, well back then he was.
I CANNOT wait for this weekend! I'm so excited for Lance and Mandy's wedding, and getting to see the family! I'm sad I won't get to see Candace, but I know I'll see her in July, so I guess I can wait ;)
I'm excited to get out of town for a bit! But that will only come after doing some major homework ahead of time and taking a test or two or three before I ditch town.
Well, ta ta for now!

"I can explain in two words: we propose to marry your daughters."

"Oh, is there not one maiden here
Whose homely face and bad complexion
Have caused all hope to disappear
Of ever winning man’s affection?
To such an one, if such there be,
I swear by Heaven’s arch above you,
If you will cast your eyes on me,
However plain you be – I’ll love you!"

"Go, ye heroes, go to glory,
Though you die in combat gory,
Ye shall live in song and story.
Go to immortality!
Go to death, and go to slaughter;
Die, and every Cornish daughter
With her tears your grave shall water.
Go, ye heroes, go and die! "
